Consider a ductless air conditioning unit. It’s exactly what it sounds like! A ductless AC unit is AC without ducts. It’s also known as a mini-split unit. Ductless, or mini-split, air conditioners are cost-effective and efficient cooling options. But, it needs care if you want to get the most use of it. Without proper care and maintenance, your ductless air conditioner’s lifespan and function could decrease.

Maintenance Tips You Can Do

Ductless AC maintenance should be handled by professionals at least once a year. My Guy Heating and Air can help with your ductless ac maintenance in Escondido. However, there are some things you can do to help your ductless AC unit last longer and stay efficient.

Before you get started, it’s a good idea to make sure to turn off the unit completely. Turn off both indoor and outdoor components and it’s advised to let the unit sit for about an hour before starting. Make sure the outdoor circuit is switched off to prevent electric shock.

Lots of Space!

Ductless AC units are known for taking up a lot less space than traditional units. However, both indoor and outdoor ductless units still need ample unobstructed space surrounding the units. A four-foot space surrounding the unit gives the unit room for better airflow.

It’s recommended to keep enough space between furniture or wall art from the ductless AC unit. These things can accumulate dust, which can be bad for your unit. Furthermore, clearing the space will prevent issues and help keep the unit running.

Keep it Clean!

It’s vital to keep your ductless AC unit clean – both the inside and the outside. From the coils and condensers to the pipes!

One of the simplest ways to keep it clean is to dust it, keeping it free of dust and debris. Dust, dirt, and other particles can make their way into the operating system and can create major issues if not kept clean. If you add it to your list of weekly house chores, it’ll be easier to maintain and it’ll help you remember to keep it clean! Take a damp towel or rag and wipe it down.

You also need to take care of your outdoor unit. It’s important to keep the coils and condenser clean. Outside debris can build upon this part of your unit. If not maintained, the debris could cause damage to this essential part of your AC unit. Before cleaning, make sure this unit is completely off. Then, use the hose to wash off the debris and dirt. Make sure to check if the fins bend. If the fins did bend, use an alignment comb to reshape them. Finally, dust the last debris by hand. Make sure the unit is completely dry before turning it back on.

This may seem like a lot, but you also need to make sure the pipes are clean and taken care of. The pipes are the pathways between the outside and inside components. If not kept clean, dirt and debris can collect and block the airflow in the pipes. Check on the pipes to make sure there is no build-up or leaks.

Remove the Filters.

The filters are essential to the functionality and efficiency of your ductless air conditioning unit. You’ll need to carefully remove the filters from the unit. With a clean, dry cloth, wipe the dust and debris off of the filter. You’ll want to do this every six to eight weeks, but if you have bad allergies or pets, you may want to consider doing this process more. If the filters are too dirty and damaged, you may need to replace the filters.

The filters are very important to the indoor air quality of your home, so it’s vital to maintain them well.

Leave it to the Professionals!

There are plenty of things you can do to help your ductless air conditioning unit run efficiently, but there will be times when it’d be better to call a professional. Furthermore, it is still important to have a professional come check your system to make sure that everything continues to work well.
